Arequipa

Colca Canyon

sunny 22 °C

Time to stop the high altitude training after completing a three day hike down into the canyon, two nights at villages and then walking out. We started at 5 am to climb up the over 1000 metes of altitude, and it took 3 hours, not a bad effort for the old girl.

In different parts of these travels you can pick the area by the ladies outfits.

The first village we stayed in was very basic. It was best not to look into the kitchen, as such, but the food was fine. Found the enclosure where the guinea pigs were kept!

The second night we stayed at a village , the English name was oasis, and that it was! It was complete with a swimming pool, fruit trees, gardens, lawns etc, so lush in contrast to the arid areas we had walked through, thanks to irrigation from the river.
